The Jaguar (Panthera onca) is the largest big cat species in the Americas and the third-largest in the world, after the tiger and lion. Jaguars are known for their powerful build, strong jaws, and beautiful yellow-orange coats covered in distinctive black rosettes.
They are solitary and elusive animals, often found in rainforests, swamps, and grasslands, primarily in Central and South America. Jaguars are excellent swimmers and often hunt in or near water, preying on fish, turtles, caimans, and even large mammals.
Symbolizing strength and agility, jaguars play an important role in many indigenous cultures and ecosystems as apex predators. Unfortunately, their populations are threatened due to habitat loss and poaching.
